Synopsis


Ethirparadathu

Tamil, Drama, 1954, B/W





Sunder (Sivaji Ganesan) is the only son of a rich man in Madurai, Dayaparar (Chittor V Nagiah). A student, he stays in Madras with Sumathi (Padmini) and her father. Sumathiís brother Doctor Gopu†(SV Sahasranamam) has left the house with his wife, Nalini (S Varalakshmi) to live in Bangalore.† Sunder leaves for USA and is thought to be dead in the plane crash. He survives, is resued by tribals and is blind. Gopu and Nalini return heavily in debt. To settle her brotherís debts, Sumathi marries Dayaparar not knowing he is Sunderís father. Dayaparar finds out about Sumathi and Sunder and finds Sunder and brings him back to Sumathi. He sends a message to Sumathi that he has died but though believing herself to be a widow, she refuses to marry Sunder as it is an awkward situation with him being her stepson. Sunder has by now regained his sight. In the end Dayaparar dies of a heart attack revelaing all leaving Sunder at Sumathiís feet.
